Happy September! As we’re moving into the fall season, I’m happy to share this guest episode about holding space for any and all emotions that may be arising in you and those around you. Please welcome my dear friend and fellow Portlander, Allison Pelot.
Allison Pelot is the author of Amazon best seller, Finally Thriving and the creator of the Finally Thriving Program. She is a holistic personal trainer and a personal growth guide. She teaches you how to connect deeply with yourself by creating a self-care practice that will both nurture your spirit and honor your personal expression.
Allison is a passionate advocate and teacher of holistic wellness, helping people honor themselves not only in the physical but also mental, energetic, and spiritual dimensions. And I had so much fun talking to her about a simple yet powerful practice that’s been a game-changer for both of us: feeling your emotions.
Most of us learned to ignore or suppress our emotions in order to get by in this world. Even as spiritual seekers and self-help enthusiasts, we may still avoid feeling our emotions by judging, analyzing, and trying to control them. Suppressed emotions get trapped in our bodies and begin to cry out for attention in different ways such as chronic stress, looping negative thoughts, waves of even more turbulent emotions, or physical dis-ease.
But as Allison explains so eloquently in this episode, an emotion is energy-in-motion. By simply acknowledging and feeling it, it can begin to move and clear out. And as we do this for ourselves, we can begin to hold space for others to do the same. The potential impact of this practice is limitless.
We talk about:
What an emotion actually is, and how to alchemize its energy by feeling it
Allison’s personal journey – from her early days as a competitive gymnast to becoming a mother and an in-demand personal trainer – and how she learned to create space for herself and feel her emotions amidst various life challenges
How to hold space for ourselves and others when we are triggered
Is expressing an emotion the same as feeling it?
How Allison helps people thrive through her holistic wellness and personal growth offerings
… and more!
